오늘 영국에 본부를 둔 Ethical Fashion Network이라는 단체에서 이메일이 왔습니다 이 단체는 지속가능한 의류산업을 위해 친환경적이고 공정한 노동조건을 보장하는 의류산업을 진흥하기 위해서 윤리적인 의류생산업체와 유통업체의 인증을 해 주고 있는 기관입니다. 여기서 소개하고 있는 Pants to Poverty라고 하는 속옷회사는 친환경운동에서부터 아예 주류 경제로 들어가 틈새시장을 개척하고 있는 브랜드라고 하네요. 사실 우리는 그동안 정부나 기업에 대해 이러쿵 저러쿵 비판만하고 말로만 운동을 해 온 경우가 많았지요 그런데 영국에서는 이렇게 아예 스스로 기업을 하거나 공공단체를 만들어 스스로 세상을 바꾸는 실험을 하는 경우가 많답니다.
제가 몇달 전 영국을 돌때 Le Bleu라고 하는 생수업체의 사장 역시 마찬가지 경우였습니다 이 사장님은 원래 언론사 기자였는데 매일 세상의 환경파괴를 비판하는 기사만 쓰다가 스스로 생수업계에 뛰어들어 옥수수로 페트병을 만들어 생수를 담는 혁신을 이룩해 내고 마침내 생수업계의 판도를 뒤바꾸게 된 것입니다. ROLE: RANGE PLANNING ASSISTANT Pants to Poverty is a young and dynamic underwear brand rapidly expanding across several markets crossing the chasm from eco activism into mainstream fashion. As they grow they are looking to develop a new product strategy which will enable the brand to develop a clear and strong product identity in the market. This post is for a motivated Fashion Marketing Student with a fresh vision and strong understanding of the industry to work directly with the team on establishing this new product strategy. Liaising with our Brick Lane and Brighton teams, this internship is split into two parts: 1. Scoping and concept development: Mid June ? Mid July a) Assessment of current product positioning within the market b) Recommendations for product development to position brand in new markets in line with expansion plans. 2. Trend analysis and range planning: Mid July ? End August a) Taking a new proposed product direction, research styles/colours and fabrications using forecasting websites and magazines., as well as trend statistics. b) Work with designer to develop research into range plans LOCATION: The majority of the work will be conducted from the Pants to Poverty office in Brick Lane but some travel to Brighton will be necessary. HOURS: Working hours are flexible but candidates are expected to be able to work for a minimum of 3 days per week. REMUNERATION: Travel and lunch costs will be covered.
